Blue Rock have always been ready and willing to support a worthy cause and when “one of our own” goes above and beyond to improve the lives of the less fortunate then forgive us for making a little fuss. Peter Chapman, one of our Business Consultants is running the marathon this year in aid of Treloars, (details below).
A group of us ran the Great South a few years ago in aid of the Children’s cancer ward in Southampton General Hospital – and that was a walk in the park, comparatively speaking, to Peters planned 26 miles. Blue Rock, and Peter, are not after donations from our customers (we are sure you do enough already) but when you next meet Peter or speak to him then please, wish him luck.
“Treloars is a college providing a mixture of residential and day care for some of the most physically disabled children in the country. They look after their students medical, educational and physical needs as well as supporting their families. Since moving to the Alton area, I have been aware of Treloars as part of the community, and this for me is in many ways their greatest achievement.
On a Saturday, you see many wheelchairs in Alton, as they go shopping with families and carers. It may not sound that significant, but given the severity of their disabilities, this is a huge achievement for each individual. Treloars has given them the confidence and skills to be able to do this, and certainly puts my own marathon efforts into perspective!”
“One of the phrases that I heard repeatedly during the Paralympics this summer was “Don’t see the disability, see the ability.” I feel Treloars take this attitude with each of their students and encourages them to achieve their potential.
They have a string of Paralympic medalists amongst their alumni in sports such as archery, swimming, athletics, authentic and Boccia. It is a truly remarkable place, and I’m proud to have the opportunity to help them in their fantastic work.”
