Many congratulations to one of our longest standing customers, Dave Baker from CJS, for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nationwide Hygiene Group.
Dave began his career as a contract window cleaner in 1965. As his business developed he was continually asked for advice and to supply cleaning products which led him to opening his first small shop in the heart of Portsmouth. A decade on and he opened the first shop under the name of Clearsee Janitorial Supplies (CJS). From humble beginnings his business blossomed which meant moving premises a further 4 times to their current location.
Our association with Dave began 27 years ago at his row of terrace houses, converted into offices in Southsea. Glen Jewell, Sales Director at Blue Rock Systems, distinctly remembers walking into Dave’s plush office, with his then Personal Assistant, Terri Ruff (who is now Managing Director, Mrs Terri Gray), with Dave’s opening statement being – “there is no way that your system is better than the one we had developed for us.”
CJS have always been early adopters of the benefits of Information Technology with a keen focus on improving day-to-day efficiencies. Their pioneering attitude is one that strongly matches the Blue Rock ethos, and from our perspective CJS has been one of the most innovative customers we have met. They have always maintained the vision and belief in what business software can achieve. As a result, their systems have tackled issues specific to their industry long before other suppliers in the same industry.
After building his business on the South Coast, Dave is well-known in this extremely competitive industry. Dave commented that the success of his business “really sneaked up on me. To begin with, it was just a means of paying the rent for the shop and the business just got bigger and bigger. This year we will have spent 20 years at Aspen House and that just seems incredible.”
Congratulations Dave, from all at Blue Rock.
